Ok Aug 26, 2009
By Brian Arnold Bought the game for my home in the mountains which does not have internet. Good not play game that I purchased due to activation, no options but using the internet - not over the phone just internet. No where in the system requirements does it say internet is required. Was going to buy 2 copies, so we could play against one another, but network play is only through the internet (Can't set up a local network play.)

A review of the actual game.... Sep 14, 2011
By vvhitevvolf So many of the reviews on here are not actually about how the game is. So i figured I would give my two cents.
First of all if you have played any of the previous MotoGP games in the past you know what to expect. This game is very similar to those games. It is fairly bare bones when it comes to presentation but the actual racing is quite good. The controls are responsive and realistic and even though one of the reviews says there is no throttle control I can assure you that there is. I am using the Xbox 360 controller on my PC to play this and I use the default settings, it uses the right trigger to accelerate and left trigger to use the front brake and it gradually adjusts both depending on how much pressure you are using. The back brake is on the "A" button and that seems like its either on or off but it works well because you will just tap/press it when needed.
Another review said there was no powerslide like past games have had, again this is not the case. If you choose the 2nd control option, I think its called "Advanced" control, then you can definatly powerslide using a combination of angle and throttle. (See the screenshot of V. Rossi I added that shows this)
The graphics are solid with detailed riders, environments and bikes. Even though I'm playing the game with close too the minimum system requirements, I played this on a PC using a 3.2 Pentium 4 with 2 GB ram and a 9500GT 512MB video card, it looks good and plays fine. There are many options that you can adjust in the setup before the game starts to optimize performance for your system, like motion blur, weather effects, bloom, hi-res textures ect. - why they don't let you do this in game is kind of annoying but once you get it set where you want you won't have to mess with it again.
There are several standard game modes like time attack, championship and quick race but the game is centered around the career mode where you earn points to upgrade your bike and unlock new bikes and gear. The better you place the more points you get to make improvements. It starts off with you riding a 125cc type motorcycle that is kind of slow but is easy to handle and as you complete the series of races eventually you will work your way up to 250cc and then Moto GP bikes. The MotoGP bikes are beasts that absolutely fly and are very fun to ride.
There are plently of real life tracks to learn and using the practice laps is highly recommended before you jump in to qualifying and then the actual race, The AI in this game is solid and despite what another person said they dont just follow one another in a line. Many times they will crash, pass and take different lines into corners ect.
In the end I give the game a 7.5 out of 10. The actual racing is quite good and I agree that is the most important thing in a racing game. But the game just needs some more style and flair to make it better. Future games in this series should add a choice for music in races, some special effects like fireworks during night races, airplanes or hotair balloons flying overhead, Flags waving in the breeze, post race celebrations and so on. Also a rewind feature like grid or dirt 2 has or even a crew chief talking to you during the race would be welcomed. Additionally some more in depth tuning for people who want to tweek every aspect of thier bike is needed or have a team mechanic you tell to tune the bike to make it grip more, turn quicker or increase top speed would be a nice touch for people who don't want to bother. Also a garage for your bikes and trophies, like the PGR series had with snapshots hanging on the walls you took would be add some emotional attachment for your accomplishments.
So if you are looking for a solid motorcycle racing simulation I would recommend the game. Just don't expect much flash and extra bells and whistles. The game is all about the racing and you can't beat the price its selling for now. MotoGP 08 offers alot of racing to test your skills and it will keep you busy for quite awhile.

Moto GP 08 Feb 09, 2010
By Christopher Upson Fun game, but needs a better throttle system. In the real world, you add throttle as you bring the bike up from a corner lean. In the game you have no throttle contol, it is ether full or off, this is not how a bike is ridden if you want to survive. To hard to maintain contol when you are looking to get on the gas at the apex of a corner. Otherwise, the game is loads of fun and the track are very close the real thing (and yes, I am a roadracer who has ridden a couple of the tracks in the game). Graphics are great and when you get the perfect line you do pull some amazing lap times that are right up there with the real pros.
Great game Mar 20, 2012
By The Witchdoctor I used to play this on Xbox360 but no longer have my xbox. I bought this for my PC. I run Windows 7 x64 Professional. To play this game (and even get it to load) you MUST do the following set the .exe file to run in compatibility mode and select Windows XP SP2 or SP3. If you don't do this, it will stall on the loading screen. The game requires you to activate it online, so you'll need an internet connection. After activation, you don't need the internet anymore, unless you want to deauthorize the game so you can install it elsewhere. If your computer has multiple user accounts (like mine does), the activation will only work for the account you activated it through. So multiple user accounts can't run this game. Keep that in mind. I have 2 standard user accounts and 1 administrator account. It can only run on the one account (my personal standard account) that I activated it in. I would prefer if Capcom made Motogp 09/10 available for PC, but they don't so this is the next best thing. It's still fun and great to play in the winter when you can't ride your real bike.
MOTOGP 2 PC had more features. Feb 10, 2012
By Desert Eagle The PRO's MotoGP 08 PC by (CAPCOM) excels in visual quality and joystick support compared to its predecessor, but that's about it. MotoGP 08 PC is compatible with a Thrustmaster T-Flight Hotas X Flight Stick MotoGP 08 PC is a good buy and still hours of fun despite the CONS below at the current sale price of $2.81, tax included. There is no way I would have been happy paying the full $9.99 for this Console to PC title.
The CON's PC features MISSING in CAPCOM's MotoGP 08: (that previous Moto GP 2 (THQ 2003)had ) Better LAN support hands down. But both use GameSpy for hosting to the internet. Ability to play your personal music library .ogg files in game while racing. Ability to save race replays. Helicopter view in race replays. Rewind control function in race replays. Bikes felt more controllable on keyboard in Moto GP 2 even without joystick support, wheelies are easier. Better bike sounds in Moto GP 2 hands down, MotoGP 08 bike sounds are horribly bad, they at times sounds like a sick organ playing, droning. Turned volume way down because its annoyingly bad.
If you have never played MotoGP 2, or its been a long while since, or you have only played the console versions, chances are, those features may be irrelevant to you and won't be missed. But for me its easy to see why this series was steered away from the PC market and geared more towards may more console only releases.
Also note, MotoGP 08 PC dose not play well with other tasks running in the background. If MotoGP 08 happens to crash for any reason, your Auto Save files can become corrupted causing the game to crash again and again at every relaunch of the game, or it will crash within the game when selecting to resume your race career within the game menu, it seems this is an issue ongoing since release in MotoGP 08. Your save files must then be deleted, to correct the problem and you'll loose all your career progress, a huge CON if it happens. (check/search various game forums for other problems)
