Kensington's Best Yet Dec 17, 2010
By Matt S Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/RSWRDQUAX3MPN These notebook locks have been around forever, and I've used several different versions of notebook locks (i.e. combination locks and keyed locks). Some have been Kensington branded, some not...
I've always had 2 minor issues with notebook locks in general:
1. They're a hassle to put on & off 2. The lock doesn't alway fit tightly in the notebook (due to variations of the notebook lock 'slot' on different notebooks)
It looks like Kensington has solved my issues!
This new ClickSafe lock comes with a security anchor (their term) that you install in the 'slot' of your notebook. They provide the tools (all that's needed is a small allen wrench), and it literally takes a minute or less. Once installed, this little anchor looks like a nub on your notebook. It's unobtrusive and doesn't cause any issues putting my notebook in or out of my carrying case.
All that's needed to attach the lock to the notebook is pushing the lockhead onto the nub. Then your hear a "CLick!" and it's secured. (yes, I actually heard "Click!" with an exclamation point).
In short, there is no need to use a key or twist a combination to lock your notebook...you only need to use the key to UNLOCK the notebook (a concept so simple I wonder why it took them so long to come up with this). Of course, with any lock of this nature you still need to wrap the steel cable around something secure (it's like a bike lock, folks...very simple).
Also, the fit of the lock to your notebook is snug and secure...because the security anchor (aka 'nub') is affixed tightly to your laptop through the existing slot, and because the lock is designed to fit tightly onto the anchor, the fit is consistent every time. Plus, it just feels good and secure.
I'm not sure if all this is making sense...maybe I'll post a video review too.
If you're looking for a notebook lock (and you clearly are since you're on this product page and reading this review), there probably is not a better lock available. I highly recommend this lock.

Bad For Aluminum MacBook May 14, 2011
By Kevin Kleinfelter
"Kevin Kleinfelter"
The concept is great for most laptops, but if you have an aluminum MacBook, avoid this like the plague.
Since it adds a permanently mounted nub sticking out of the side of your laptop, if you slightly bump the side of your computer into your monitor or your desk, you'll get a big dent in your aluminum unibody MacBook. The aluminum in the unibody is pretty soft. Without the nub, bumps tend to get spread across a large surface area, particularly if you're using a "skin" case. But the nub sticks out beyond the case, and a minor bump will leave a surprisingly large dent.
With a normal security lock, you don't have a permanent nub sticking out, so when you're moving your laptop there's nothing to bump.

Snaps on - Saves time Mar 10, 2011
By Pratik88 Great lock and works similar to others sold by Kensington. The difference is the permanent "stub" you screw in for the "snap on" lock. It sticks out about half a CM which isn't a big deal to most people but if you have a tight fit laptop bag or case it might cause a problem. Snap on lock saves time and I don't have to get my key out every time I want to lock it up. Of course you do need the key to unlock it so if you're going to the library don't forget the key.

The Lock to go with. Jul 25, 2011
By B. R. Leach Having spent several hours looking up various laptop locks, reading and even viewing reviews, and considering the pros and cons listed, I decided on purchasing this one. I wanted laptop thief deterance for 5 to 10 minute absences, with the assurance I can get it on and back off (when I want to leave), without attracting too much attention.
It offered keys; usually a superior system. Too many combinations reported as sloppy or jamming: users who set a combination then can't get them to work. And these keys were reported as unique, not the kind that some reported as allowing a master to open them. I didn't like the reviews where some locks were so easy to pick. (they even had videos.) Plus, having 2 keys offered security in that if I couldn't find one, I'd know where I put the other one. A drop of oil or WD40 in the lock right off solves keys reported to stick or wont' turn.
The nub you initially set on the computer is nice and tight, allowing a snap of the lock on and off. It feels tight and secure. Plus this product seems a newer generation of design. I think they solved some of the prior problems.
The 6 foot cable is adequate. It will halt a santch & grab, while you pop up to the counter or restroom. People who criticized about wire cutters, or hours without oversight are being unreasonable. Once the nub is on the laptop, the whole system (sans keys) is one piece and coils up/fits into a pack or carry case. it goes on and off fast and easy.
Price was slightly higher than the middle, but, assuming you get what you pay for, it's been worth it so far. My laptop has always been there when I hustle back in either the library or coffee shop.

Almost perfect. Jul 25, 2011
By Squidney I use this to secure my laptop at work, which is frequently kept near the loading dock of a very busy warehouse, which lots of traffic. It's very convenient and incredibly simple to use: Just snap it in and unlock it later with a turn of the key.
The cable itself isn't very thick--in fact, it's thinner than most computer lock cables...but still sturdy enough to deter many would-be thieves. I do wish that different cable lengths would be offered because it's a bit on the short side. The locking nub that is screwed into the Kensington lock slot on the laptop is very durable, and fit at least 2 different laptops. So, unless your notebook has a funky-sized slot, it is universal.
