1A Big Letdown  Dec 06, 2006
By Kimberly J. Alpert
This game is nothing like the previous games with the same title. They took out a lot of the old features and replaced them with a talent show. You can't pick up the cat. You can't breed them anymore. You can't have more than one cat out at a time it seems. There's a money system. The 3D graphics are the only real good thing about the game.

If you like the old versions of this game, stay away.

If you want to train your cat to do tricks, dress it up, and decorate your house with set designs, you might like it.

1Can't install the game - stay away  Jan 14, 2007
By Redmond Family "RF"
I would stay away from this. It clearly wasn't tested very well. We tried to install the game three times, on three different machines, all XP, all with the right system requirements and the latest video card drivers and it failed all three times. Never worked. Crashed every time we tried to run it. We're retruning it ASAP.

4daughters like it  Oct 12, 2011

I have two daughters that constantly play this game. I am always hearing cat sounds and are not sure if they are from the game or our real cat. I thought they'd get bored with it after a week but they still play it frequently.

1The short version of this reveiw: Buy Catz 3 or 4 instead.  May 09, 2011

If you want, you can just take my word for it and just read this review's title. If not, stick around.

NOTE: In this review I'll refer to this game as next-gen Catz and I'll call the older games that are also called "Petz" Petz 3 and 4, even though there are more classic games than that. So that you can easily go to what you probably want to buy I'm putting in these links (they might not work on your computed unless you download a Petz 4 patch, and the Petz 4 patch works for 3 too). Catz 3 Catz 4 You may also want to consider Catz 5, although I personally don't like it quite as much. Catz 5

Thrift expert and mother of six Amy Dacyzyn once said that the fun of a new toy wears off in about two days. This goes for certain software, too, and this is certainly one of those pieces of software. In this game, you pick a kitten. After that you go to your house, where your new pet will sit on the floor in front of you until you tell it to do something. One breed will occasionally jump on the furniture. It is not exactly thrilling.
In Petz 3 and 4 your Catz will walk around, sleep, sit, and jump on ledges. And if you take out other Catz or toyz or interact with your pet yourself in Petz 3 and 4, they'll do even more. In next-gen Catz, you can only have one cat. There is currency and contests in next-gen Catz, but they add practically nothing to the game. Next-gen Catz seems really pre-packaged and unrealistic, with messages popping up to walk you through every second of pet care. I own next-gen Dogz, but never played it because I suspect it is just like next-gen Catz. In fact, I think when they made this Catz game they just took next-gen Dogz and changed the images to Catz. In this game you have your cat fetch and roll over-- dog stuff.
In Petz 3 and 4 each pet has a unique personality. And in the classic games, your petz can have kittenz or puppyz, have friends, likes, dislikes, lots of different toyz, and Dogz and Catz can meet together. Plus, there are LOTS of legal fan-made downloads for Petz 3 and 4. While the fun of next-gen Catz diminishes in two days, kids AND adults have played Petz 3, 4 and the other classic games for YEARS without getting tired of it.
