Not USB 3.0 Jan 19, 2012
By Steven R. Gruchawka
"Shop till you drop"
The hub I received operates at USB 2.0 speeds not USB 3.0.
This was tested with a Patriot Supersonic Magnum 64 GB USB Thumb Drive. If the thumb drive is directly plugged into the USB 3.0 port on my laptop, it gives USB 3.0 speeds. If plugged into a 3' long USB 3.0 cable it gives USB 3.0 speeds. If plugged into the Tripp-Lite U360-004-R hub with the supplied cable and power adapter, it gives USB 2.0 speeds - not USB 3.0 speeds.
Zentimo xStorage Manager was used to gather the data. Each test was run three times yielding a standard deviation of 1.3%.
Reads/writes (Mbps) on hub compared with direct connection with 3' long USB 3.0 cable: Small files: 23/1.3 rather than 71/1.6 with 32 kb files Medium files: 33/17 rather than 158/27 with 3 mb files Large files: 33/16 rather than 178/29 with 100 mb files.
This is not a USB 3.0 hub. I returned it for a refund.

Works well after updating adapter card Dec 20, 2011
By bjornpdx Plugged the hub into my desktop computer USB3 adapter card.
Plugged in a Lexar professional USB 3 card reader into the hub. Didn't work, in fact after a few seconds my computer blue screened.
Tried the hub in my laptop USB3 port. Hub worked great. Okay, something wrong with the USB3 adapter card.
After much research discovered that most, maybe all, USB3 adapter cards use the Renesas/NEC chips. Went to a French website and downloaded the current driver for the adapter card. Still got the blue screen. Went back to the French website and downloaded the current firmware. After much hassle - these things never go smoothly - finally got the firmware to install.
Success! The Tripp-Lite hub now works great.

Does not work all of the time. Feb 07, 2012
By Pappy I brought this hub along with the WD Usb 3 Card. I already had a Seagate Ext. hard drive that was usb3. Installed the WD card and then the Seagate. Connected the ext. hard drive to the tripp usb3 hub along with a US Robotics All in one card reader. The computer would make several sounds indicating the devices were being recognized and then not being recognized. I would have to unplug the devices from the hub and then reconnect them to get them to work. Finally, I connected the devices directly to the card in the back of the computer. No problems since.
Would not recommend this product to anyone. Now I am looking for a hub that will works.

Works great Oct 18, 2011

Works great. I only wish that it was a little heavier so that the power and usb uplink cable wouldn't lift it off the desk. If you lay your power and usb uplink cable flat on a surface top, you may not have this problem. My cables go down a grommet hole, directly behind the hub.

Constantly causes drives to drop connections Jan 17, 2012
By Rickmc So I plugged this hub into the brand new Dell 8300 desktop's usb 3.0 port and then plugged two 3.0 usb drives into it. Tried copying files from one drive to the other and it first off dropped the file transfer speed to 1/3 of normal and then caused the drives to drop off every 10-30 seconds and error out the file transfer. To make sure it wasn't the drives, I unplugged this unit, plugged the 2 usb drives into the 3.0 ports on the Dell and tried the file transfers again. Speed tripled and all file transfers completed without any errors. Returned. Thank you Amazon for making returning defective items a pleasure rather than a nightmare.
