Charger design spoils a good headset Oct 17, 2006
By Phil I'm a headset gadget nut, so I bought into the Discovery 640-series as soon as it came out. Plantronincs apparently cannot get it through their heads that the Discovery 640 series charger design is irreparably flawed. I spoke to a corporate rep just about an hour ago on the status of this, but all she would say is that their company acknowledges some "difficulties with early releases" of this product. Yet Plantronincs continues to use the same flawed charger design. As MANY frustrated users have noted, the headset does not stay well connected inside the slipcase-style charger/case. Like others, I've tried tape, rubber bands, and everything I can think of, but to no avail. I plug it in, see the red charging light, but when I come back 10 or more minutes later the light is out (if the charge were complete it would turn blue) and I have to jiggle it to get it to keep charging.

Good Bluetooth headset Sep 24, 2006
By Howards Amazon Reviews I've had one of these before, but it didn't work reliably with my original Verizon V3c Razr. The phone was recently replaced with a new V3c and had new firmware. So I re-purchased the Plantronics 640 in the 'E' version. It works great. Sound quality is excellent, and volume is wonderful. The Bluetooth coverage isn't great, but since I use this with the phone nearby, that isn't an issue for me. The 'E' version is the same as the regular 640, but doesn't have all the accessories. That's fine because I didn't need the metal box, or a bunch of AC adaptors. This 'E' version comes with just the headset, 3 different sets of earbuds, ear clip (which I don't use), the AC adaptor/charger, and the 'AAA' battery charger (very cool). Love this headset and am really happy that it now works very reliably with my Motorola cellphone. Only four stars due to lesser coverage than other Bluetooth headsets, but for me, that's not a major issue.

Great Headset Sep 23, 2007
By Drew Cheney

I've used this headset for almost two months now, and there's nothing I can complain about. I'm always mobile -I drive a lot for work, and need the ability to work without holding a phone or killing my neck- and this headset is a lifesaver. I don't know how I ever thought corded headsets were great.
This headset is great. It's very light, very small, fits my ear well, has great call quality, and actually has multipoint -so I can use it with both of my cells (personal and work) at the same time. I really like the fact that I can use the AAA charger with it if I've had it on all day, and I've never been out of juice, yet.
If I'm somewhere with a lot of noise or wind, I can tell that the person I'm speaking with has a harder time hearing me, but it hasn't been a conversation-stopper, and nobody has ever brought it up.
When on multipoint, it doesn't switch over from phone to phone instantly; when checking voice-mail, you might miss a word or two of the computer's introductory speech.
My wife liked my headset, so I let her try it, and now she has one, too. I highly recommend this product.

Great Fit! May 25, 2007
By Robin K

After going through a few headsets that were loose fitting and would feel like they are falling off, the 640E is a perfect fit! It comes with 3 sized earbuds that will alone hold up the light as air device. But it also comes with an optional ear hook that makes for a perfect fit. Functionally it works perfect. Voice quality is excellent. Talk time is not as long as the Moto 850 which I had, 5 vs ~9hrs. And it has the capability to connect to a 2nd bluetooth device and will give a different sounding ring for each. So now im looking for a desk bluetooth phone to have a home station and a mobile phone connection.

A++ Finally found one that works! Nov 03, 2007

Since first purchasing my Bluetooth capable phone in February 2007, I have tried no less than 6 Bluetooth headsets. All of them that I tried before this one would cut out and and sounded terrible. Many of them had such sensitive microphones that people could hear everything that was going on around me when I talked to them.
This unit has a good mic and people no longer complain that the noises around me are too loud for them to take. They can hear me well, but not every door slam or conversation around me. I read several reviews that said this is a very good unit. The reviews were not wrong.
The unit is nearly the smallest I have found. It looks good on my ear. I did have to use the (included) ear hanger piece to keep it on my ear. It is supposedly designed so that one can just put the gummy earpiece in one's ear and go. But my ear is big and none of the gummy earpieces were capable of staying in my ear. Besides, when I spend this kind of money on something, I don't want any chance it is going to come off my ear and be lost or broken. So, if you can't get the earpieces to fit, just use the hanger.
Unit is easy to use. Works with voice dialing and will dial the last number dialed with just a press of the button twice. Answer and hang up with the button. Volume is on the unit and works well.
It comes with a normal plug-in charger AND a pocket charger that will charge it off of a AA battery. That is handy to just put in your bag or briefcase and charge in an emergency away from home and the home charger.
I would buy this unit again.
