4AW-722 Review  Apr 19, 2007
By PenName
I've had these about a week now. I use them exclusively for the TV. Here's the scoop so far:

Comfortable to wear. There is padding on the top and on the ear pieces.

The sound is pretty good and it travels through walls in my house with no problem. I even stepped outside the front door and had no reception problems.

Recharges simply by placing the headphones in the base station. (Rechargeable AAA size batteries are included.)

Channel-select switch on the cradle/transmitter let's you pick from 3 channels. The unit was shipped set on channel 1, but switching to channel 2 in my house resulted in much less background hiss and the ability to listen at really low volumes. (There is still a very soft background hiss if I listen closely, but it's not loud enough to bother me)

There is a fine tuning dial on the headset that you have to adjust the first time you use it. You'll also have to adjust the dial if you decide to change the cradle/transmitter channel number. (It's pretty easy to do the adjustment since there is a wide range on the dial where you can pick up the signal.)

I did not find anything that explicitly stated whether or not you can use regular batteries instead of the rechargeable ones. (It does say however, that you should not try to recharge regular batteries.)

4Good sound, easy to recharge, wireless freedom  Dec 10, 2007
By booshleeg
SOUND QUALITY: 4 out of 5
These headphones produce a flat sound (treble and bass don't overpower the mids). The bass tends to kicks in more as the volume is increased. Wireless reception is fairly clear, however some hiss/whitenoise is audible if the volume is set high on the headset. This seems to be a common issue for any 900 MHz headphones. To minimize the hiss, it helps to turn up the volume on the input source (TV, stereo, PC, etc.) as much as possible and try not to max out the volume on the headset. A stronger signal from the source will also give you more range and minimize interference. I have a 5.8 GHz phone, 802.11g wifi (2.4 GHz), GSM mobile phone (1900 MHz), and an LCD TV all within 10 ft of the base and haven't noticed any interference problems. If you move around a lot, it may experience some interference similar to terrestrial radio the farther you get from the base.

COMFORT: 4 out of 5
The cans are about 1/4" deep, so they press down on my ears a little. I can wear them for a couple hours before I start to feel a little discomfort around my ears. But at least they are relatively light and don't cause any major neck strain for me. They might even be okay to wear while running on a treadmill, though I haven't tried it. I am a size 7 hat size, but these headphones should have no problems fitting larger heads. The top headband is cushioned and the earpieces are adjustable on all 3-axis. The cans block out about 30% of the exterior noise, so you can definitely still have a conversation with them on.

BATTERIES/CHARGING: 3 out of 5
To charge the batteries, you just set the headphones into the base and the charging light will turn on. It really is idiot proof and I don't understand how anyone would have problems. The batteries are standard NiMH rechargeable batteries and go into the left earpiece. Some negative points: The charge indicator shows a red color when charging, but there's no indicator to show when the batteries are fully charged. Also, I can hear a very high pitched noise/squeal when the headphones are charging on the base (possibly a defective unit). Most people may not notice it, but if you have sensitive ears, it may annoy you if you are within a feet away of the base while charging. I usually charge mine overnight while I'm sleeping, so it's not a big enough reason to exchange it. You can also remove the batteries and recharge them in a separate charger. Non-rechargeable alkaline AAA batteries may be used as well (don't charge them in the base however).

CONTROLS: 4 out of 5
The power button, volume, and fine tuning controls are on the right earpiece. I had no problem tuning it to pick up the signal from the base. Once it's tuned, you rarely have to adjust it. You will know when the batteries are low because the volume will get lower or sound will cut out because it's too weak to pick up the base signal. If you plan to use these headphones with your TV, be sure your TV allows you to adjust the volume when outputting via RCA or headphone jack.

CONCLUSION:
It's obvious the AW722 doesn't output reference quality sound, but for $50 I think it serves its intended purpose well. If you want better sound isolation and higher wireless fidelity, you'll have to spend a lot more or go with wired headphones. But for casual listening to music or when watching TV, these headphones will give you the freedom to move about and do other things without getting tangled up in a cord.

5Great product  Jul 30, 2007
By R. Holliday
I have had these headphones for over a year now and I love them. The problems that others complain about are actually user error. You are required to fully charge and fully discharge the batteries around 3 to 4 times in order to create the memory need to keep your headphones charged and ready to go at all times. I have had no problems with this product and would recommend them to anyone.

5Great product! I bought two!  Oct 30, 2007
By Realmountainman
This is a really neat product. I got my first set within two days from Seller "GSAN". They work within 150 feet (inside or outside and all around the house). To charge the batteries just put the headset in the cradle with the headset pointing straight up and with the charging light point toward you and on (red). Note: when you are charging the transmitter goes off. I liked these so much that I bought a second set from GSAN again. I only use the second cradle for charging the headsets since one cradle (transmitter) can work with multiple headsets. They do work with regular batteries by the way. Since our hearing is not as great at 50 years old as it used to be my wife and I can hear programs better than turning up the TV. We can now also watch some shows that we avoided due to language without having our son hear every word when he is nearby but not watching the TV (Two and a half men for instance). I can also watch sports and not bother my wife with the noise. I wish I had bought these years ago. Hook the Y connector's two inputs into the TV OUTPUT and then the cord into the transmitter. Tune the headphones to whatever channel you are using and adjust the volume. I set these up in minutes. Once again- Great product!

4WORKS WITH PC!!  Sep 11, 2007
By moonchuckersmom
I bought these for my daughter so she could listen to music from her PC anywhere in the house. These are not described as PC headphones, but they do work with the PC as long as there is a 3.5MM audio outlet, which most PCs have in order to plug in speakers or conventional corded headsets. It also works with her MP3 player. All around a good product.
