The engineers at RCA are brilliant, but retarded... Oct 09, 2006
By J. Weber The engineers got nearly everything on this alarm clock perfect. The switchs, lights, and knobs are dead on. What I mean is that the controls make perfect sense. They are logical, well laid out, and easy to use. In addition, the gradually increasing volume of the alarm is just right. It is neither abrasive, not too soft. If it were not for the following problem, I would by 10 of these and put them in a safe to use over the next 50 years of my life and keep an eleventh to be buried with.
What makes this machine worthy of only one star is the LCD (backlit with blue). The screen makes this clock simply useless. It is too small and the backlight is too powerful.
During the day, it is impossible to read the screen more than 3 feet away, and I have better than 20/20 vision. More importantly, at night the light is so bright I have to turn it around 180 degrees. This obviously is a problem when I want to know how much time I have left to sleep. But, add to that that when I turn it to face me, the light is so overpowering that I must put it within 12 inches of my face to read the damn thing.
I cannot overstate how much I like the layout of this machine. However, I must simultaneously warn you: DO NOT buy this clock under any circumstances whatsoever.

Terrific clock radio with intuitive features Apr 24, 2007
By Graygorey It's about time someone designed a clock radio like this. Nevermind that it's attractive and stylish (the pictures here don't do the sleek retro-futuristic look justice); it's the features that make this a clock a winner!
My standards for clock radios have been redefined. I am now forever spoiled by:
-Automatic time sync: set the indicator to your time zone, plug in the clock, and it will set itself automatically (thanks, U.S. Atomic Clock!).
-"Daylight Savings" switch: meaning you don't have to reprogram the clock just because it's daylight savings - just flip the switch, the clock compensates for that hour's difference. No more holding your finger on the button for six minutes while the clock fast-forwards twenty-three hours.
-Two brightness options (okay, I will concede - "kinda bright" and "night light")
-Display options: analog or digital
This clock convinced my wife to give up the Radio Shack alarm clock she's had for the last nineteen years (she got it as a gift, and it's got real sentimental value - she's making me add that it still works perfectly).
Take some of the pain out of mornings - wake up to this wonderful clock!

the other two reviews of this great clock are way off base.
the display reads very easily, with adjustable display view.
the unit does everything it says it does and more, the sound is more than decent for a small speakered unit.

This Alarm Clock Radio has a retro class and simplicity to use. You can't go wrong with this alarm clock.
