4Neck and Shoulder Saver  Jan 01, 2010
By S. Faulk
Quality and Use: 3 people in our office have been using these Plantronics headsets for about 4 years now and they have worked great. We have a service and repair business with very busy phones so we are constantly on the telephone taking orders and talking to customers. We can walk about 300 feet away from the base without any problem including outside the office. You may be able to go farther or be limited to shorter distances but I believe it would depend on the construction of your building. There are several buttons on the headset and one I find very useful which is a MUTE button. I can talk privately for a moment if needed without the caller ever knowing and there is no need to put them on hold. The other buttons are for volume and answering the call. One more great feature to point out is that you can move about the office to get files, make copies or faxes and even work from another desk without putting someone on hold.
As far as battery life goes, when left to charge overnight the unit will last all day with busy phones without any need a recharge. We have never replaced the batteries in the units so they seem to hold up well over time. I did purchase a replacement for a unit that ended up cracked where the arm that goes around your head connects to the earpiece but I think 4 years of use is acceptable for the cost.

Ergonomics: I was getting a sore neck and shoulder from holding a standard phone with my chin and shoulder before trying one of these but the pain went away after a month or so of strictly using the headset. If you suffer from this kind of pain I think this can really help.

4Pretty good but corded still rules  Nov 07, 2010
By J. D. Stickler "darrelstickler"
A few observations:

o The Plantronics CS351N is a mono, over-the-head, wireless model with noise-canceling microphone (not the clear tube type)

o My reference is a top-of-the-line corded mono, over-the-head, corded Plantronics with noise canceling microphone that I bought for $139 8-10 years ago that is absolutely perfect in the performance and comfort departments (except for, well, the cord).

o I have the base station plugged into the headset port on the back of a Cisco 7961. No handset lifter since I work near the phone and have little need to answer the phone remotely. There is an auxiliary phone jack on the base station, so my old corded model is plugged in there and you can switch back and forth at will. The base station has about four inches of separation from the left/handset side of the 7961.

o It took Plantronics tech support to get the sound quality to an acceptable level. Feedback I get is "pretty good", "not quite as good as the corded headset but close", but also "tinny" (compared to corded). Overall, I'm in the "get used to it phase." Depending on further feedback, I might use the corded model if doing WebEx presentations to a non-native-English speaking audience... any edge to improve comprehension.

o Current settings are:
-- 4 on the Configuration Dial
-- B on the raw mic setting
-- a few pushes up on the fine mic setting.
-- 4 on the raw earpiece sound

Out of the box, there was a nasty echo for the person on the other end and the sound was tinny on my end. Tech service (out of Tijuana) had a more organized way to get it dialed in. I was two clicks from sending it back, so good on them.

o In general, the industrial design is a bit confusing--the raw sound setting is next to the fine mic setting, you can't see the numbers on the Configuration Dial but the dial has to be perfectly so for the setting to take effect, and the charging and power buttons are partially hidden when the headpiece is in the cradle.

But I'll probably get over it. Homeworkers have a close relationship with their headsets, so I'm just a little extra sensitive to changes..

2Headset crackles and interferes with calls  Jul 21, 2011
By Loves to Read
I really don't care for this headset, purchased to replace a previous Plantronics wireless headset. Brief synopsis after using this for the past 6 months:

Cons:
- If you walk/move around, the headset frequently crackles and causes disturbance that the other person can hear
- The ear piece is heavy/clunky and bothersome to wear if you are on the phone for a long time

Pros:
- I like the "remote" handset lifter on the earpiece, but would sacrifice that for a more streamlined and lighter earpiece.

4Works great with 2.5 mm adapter  May 10, 2010
By Roman Beyer "Steinke Beyer"
I did some research about using this unit with a 2.5 mm adapter. I have a four-line GE phone that has the 2.5 mm headset input and the headset button on the front face of the phone next to the speaker button. I did not want to use the headset lifter. It just seemed too much of a Rube Goldberg approach to answering or placing a call. So I purchased this adapter on Amazon.com, "GN Netcom 2.5MM TO RJ-9 Audio Cord for Panasonic 8763-289 POLYCOM 320/330". I was warned that I may loose quality or that there may not be enough amplification. I did not have a problem with either, and I recommend this combination.
Also, if you use the headset in this configuration, there is an option on the headset so that when you pull the headset out of the charging station/dock, it automatically turns on. I find this feature very convenient since it does not require pushing another button to place a call.

With regard to the review by "Chad", I agree, my headset appeared to have been repackaged. I'm not sure what to do about that except be aware of it as a buyer.

5Great headset!  Feb 20, 2009
By Bart L
I love this headset and can now talk forever without the hassle of holding a phone up to me ear. The clarity is clear and people say they can hear me perfectly. It's so lightweight i hardly notice it's on. highly recommend it if you're looking for a wireless headset cause you can walk a long distance away from the cradle!!
