Decent quality, but you need some ghosts Feb 13, 2007

No where on this product description or on the actual box of the item did it say that you needed a phantom power power source. When I bought the mic, I was expecting a battery compartment, or a ac adapter. When I first plugged it in to my amp, I could not hear anything, and did not know why. after a long google search, I finally found out that the microphone uses phantom power - meaning it gets it's power through the same cable that the sound travels through. The power initially comes from whereever you plug the mic into, as long as the audio interface you are using has phantom power out put (which as it turns out, most do these days). However, I bought the mic so that I could record into my computer, which DOES NOT have a phantom power output. So in this aspect, I was extremely disappointed.
The stand that comes with this kit is VERY high quality, easilly the best thing about this product. The phantom power xlr cable it comes with is also very high quality and durable, and I was really surprised when it came by how long the cable was.
The microphone clip is so-so, but it does the job.
I finally got the mike to work using a really ghetto rig up, going through a guitar preamp, called a pocket rockit. The audio sounded ok, but it could have been better. The microphone could have also picked up more of the noise at farther from it; I had to keep my mouth within 4 inches of the microphone to hear anything.
Overall, I would recommend finding a microphone that is battery powered or has an ac adapter, unless you are sure that you have an audio interface that has phantom power support. It's just not worth the trouble.

Excellent value for the money Jul 03, 2008
By W. Ream I purchased this to use with the Yamaha PRS S900 keyboard for home use. It's perfect for karaoke and family fun. It does not have the same voice quality as the Shure 85 mic (industry standard), but you're paying $100 less! Considering all the included accessories, it's a steal at this price.
