4It does the basics very well  Feb 24, 2006
By Todd A. Kleiman "BigShopper"
I had a Dyson prior to this and while it did a good job at suction the agitator did not handle carpet well and the plastic cracked easily.

As for this unit:
Pros
- Light and quiet
- Excellent at cleaning. Dirt sensor works VERY well.
- Compact storage
- Tools are easily accessible
- Long cord
- Nozzle is very adjustable when removed from the base
Cons
- The filter inside requires removing it to clean properly. Emptying it without getting your hands dirty is rarely feasible.
- Removing the nozzle from the base is easy, but the hose is short and it's easy to tip the base unit over unless you carry it around while you spot clean.
- A separate handle on the base unit is supposedly meant to carry it around...the main handle is never to be used to lift the vacuum (say to get it up steps or around a place it wont fit).
- The tools themselves are a bit chintzy and sometimes fall out of the unit during use.

5I love mine!  Oct 05, 2011

I purchased this vacuum cleaner 5 years ago and have never had a major problem. Works like a charm. If it plugs up, it's because I am vacuuming something that shouldn't be vacuumed. I don't know of any vacuum that will pick up toothpicks and such without plugging up. I don't want mine to ever break down, keep the filters clean and you've got a good machine.

2ok, but...  May 08, 2008

I purchased this vacuum a year ago after I my Fantom finally died on me. My panasonic is very disappointing. I purchased it after the salesman discouraged me from a Dyson due to price, stating this works just as well. My hose comes unattached for no reason while vacuuming, allowing everything being swept in, to come straight out and me having to do the whole thing again. It does not do stairs well and the attachments do not have much suction. Emptying the canister is a real mess since the filter is in the canister. The salesman told me to sweep the filter with a shop vac every time I empty the canister. What a mess!!

This vacuum is lightweight and easy to use. For the first month, it was ok. Now, the honeymoon is over.

2High maintenance vacuum  Dec 28, 2007

This vacuum has only worked flawlessly for about a week, when we first got it. Since then, it's constantly overheating from constant blockage, and the self-propel works sporadically. We don't have an especially dirty house, yet it jams up constantly. The smell of burning rubber 5 minutes after turning it on really permeates the air. That's also assuming it runs for 5 minutes without overheating and shutting off.

Definitely not worth the $189 we paid for it. We're having to replace belts and filters constantly. Not recommended.

5so far so good  Mar 15, 2007

I returned my Hoover Windtunnel 2 that broke with-in 1 week. I loved the features, but as all the reviews said----it breaks almost instantly. This one got pretty good reviews in Consumer Reports and it had the integrated wand like the windtunnel that I really liked. FYI: it works 1000 times better with this vacuum. with the Hoover it was very hard attaching and detaching it. this one is much better. I paid for this on my Amazon Visa so it doubled the warranty to 2 years--so i know i'm covered if it breaks.

UPDATE 6/5/2007!!!!!!!!!!
Jams like crazy, requiring constant dismantling to locate blockage.
Multi level suction is a joke, you always will override it to keep it on maximum suction.
anti-overheating device is always switching on when the slightest blockage occurs requiring to turn machine off and on again---a huge nuisance!!!
Definetly not a $200 vacuum--or even worth the $89.99 I paid for it on Amazon.
