Don't Buy These! Mar 06, 2005
By doncole99 I bought a 50 pack spindle of these HP CD-Rs that worked with no problem, but then I bought a 100 pack spindle, burned 20 CDs and 12 of them played with a few seconds horrible noises. I returned the 100 pack spindle to Staples and they replaced them with only a 50 pack spindle of these HP CD-Rs. After burning the CD-Rs I had to take the time to listen all the way through to check it's sound quality. Same horrible result. STAY AWAY!
I called HP Customer Service and left them a message on their answering service. They did not return my call and Staples will not take these back. Staples has been having an amazing sale on these HP CD-Rs for months. Do yourself a favor and STAY AWAY from HP CD-Rs!
I use Sony and some other brands that make perfect CDs.

Average, not really worth it! Coasters! Oct 16, 2009
By Charlotte E. Harkless I used to buy these in bulk back in the day and they were fine. I bought another 100 bundle this week and I'm having problems with them. I used to burn CDs in bulk for my local church and I'd go through about 3-4 stacks of 100 CDs from various brands including HP and I'd rarely, if ever, get a "coaster." (CD that didn't burn correctly) I'd say maybe 1 out of 400 or 500 discs didn't burn right.
I bought this bundle and I'm doing a home project, burning around 120 discs. Out of the first 50 CDs I've burned, I've already had two coasters! Buyers beware. I feel the issue may lie somewhere related to HP saving money by making these discs really thin/transparent. I'm not totally sure, but they do seem really clear when held up to a light from the front or back. The discs themselves are working fine, but I'm getting a high number of coasters. The ones that do burn they burn ok. I'd look for another brand until HP makes their discs more solid again if you're worried about them lasting/burning correctly each time.
Incompatible with many players Dec 04, 2008

I burned 30 audio CDs, and they hardly play in any CD players. They play on less than half of the modern CD players I own, and that includes computers. It won't even play on the CD drive I used to burn the discs, I have to use the old, slow CD drive below it. The same audio content plays just fine on anything when recorded to Memorex CD-R media. On top of that, the CD error rate was about 50% unless I reduced the burner speed to the slowest setting. That said, this has only been a waste of $10 and 2 hours that could have been used to get actual work done. Do not use these for audio, but maybe they're fine for data, who knows? Personally, I urge all of you to stay clear of these CDs, they are truly pieces of junk for music, and I don't want to find out if they are reliable enough for other data. I suppose I should have rated these 2 stars, since the blue and silver top works well as a coaster, Christmas ornament, whatever. By now, you probably see my point that these CDs are just plain bad.
No problems, when recording at 4x speed Oct 17, 2007
By David Forthoffer I have written JPEG photos and audio files to hundreds of these HP 52x CD-Rs. I have never had any problems. The difference between my experience and those who have had problems may be that I always write at 4x speed, while they perhaps write at 52x speed. But since I have a product and method that works 100% for me, I will continue to use these CD-Rs. I am about to order a few hundred more CDs right now.
