4Works well...watch garbage collecting inside it  May 16, 2001
By Matthew McBride
I used one of these at work, and it does a nice job as part of a larger system. I had a few problems when leaf debris collected on the top...but you will have that problem with any rain collector. It's a good buy, especially for gardeners that need this information.

5Davis Standard Rain Collector  Nov 04, 2011
By G. Michael
I've had the Davis Instruments Weather Wizard II [#7420] since 1995 and it always provided me with the weather information I needed, except rainfall. I always missed not having the optional rain collector and was getting tired of relying on a simple cup-type rain gauge that I had to go outside and read. I decided to do a Google search and found the Rain Collector still available after all these years. The price was less than the 1995 MSRP so I went for it. It was delivered in no time. Installation took about an hour and it plugged right into the existing junction box for the Weather Wizard II. A simple test confirmed it was operating properly. The very next day a series of rain showers went through and the rain collector registered the amount down to the hundredth of an inch. More than satisfied, and I didn't have to go outside to read the amount of rain!

4Great product for the price  Oct 07, 2011
By nuke
I purchased this to provide rain information to a Gwytech ET-1 sprinkler controller. A relatively simplistic product that gets the job done for a reasonable price. It does occasionally accumulate a false "tip" or two due to wind, but at .01" of rain per tip, not an appreciable factor.

5Better than expected  Dec 25, 2010
By Paul Boatman "Paul"
After waiting 6 days with no rain I finaly got to use it today .19 inchs today, easy to install, I was 15 feet short on cable but I see its just phone wire, you can use 4 wire 4 connector RJ14 phone wire and a coupler if it's going to be out of the weather, it works just fine. This one has a built in bubble level and that makes it alot easier to install.

P.S. I tested the phone wire on the wind and temp sensors and they worked just fine.

3Great Idea!  Jan 23, 2003

I tried this one, it works and the concept is great. A lot of leaves and debris get in it.I found a better design in Amazon.com auctions under home and garden, called the rain barrel. This is an impressive design, it has a screen on top and spicot on the bottom for hose hook-up. Nothing else required! In Colorado with the water restiction so tight, I managed to keep my garden alive with the little rain that we had and adding the gray water to it. Check it out!
